Negotiations on the nuclear deal between Iran and major powers have made progress in recent days, according to all parties. But while Westerners are asking Tehran to make decisions, the Islamic Republic is demanding gestures from the United States.
With our correspondent in Tehran, Siavosh Ghazi
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who is in Munich to attend the Security Conference, said a deal was within reach. But according to him, it is up to Westerners to show their goodwill.
” We took all the decisions we had to take by showing our seriousness. To reach an agreement, it is now up to the three European countries and the United States to act as we have done in making decisions, said the head of Iranian diplomacy.
” We will not give in on the interests of the Iranian people, even if it means no deal added Hossein Amir Abdolahian.
Tehran is demanding an end to all US sanctions imposed since 2018 and guarantees that the United States will not leave the nuclear deal again. This position was repeated by Iranian President Ebrahim Raissi, during a telephone interview with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Obviously, the diplomats succeeded in finding compromises on many subjects, but the last straight line and the last outstanding questions remain difficult.
