Despite total Swedish dominance at times, Norway won the national cup.
Frida Karlsson hardly believed it was true – but now comes a greeting from Norwegian Lotta Udnes Weng.
– It’s nice to put the Swedes in their place.
The season can only be summed up as one big success for Sweden. During the WC, there were a total of four out of six golds, and a total of eleven out of 14 medals on the women’s side. At the same time, Ebba Andersson has had a gigantic breakthrough, not least during the WC, and Frida Karlsson won the Tour de Ski.
Frida’s shock
But when the World Cup finished this weekend, it was still Norway who became the big winner. Tiril Udnes Weng won the overall world cup, and despite all the Swedish successes during the winter, it was still Norway that won the national cup on the women’s side, ahead of Sweden. Something that really surprised Frida Karlsson.
– Huh!? Is it really true, she tells Expressen.
Norway thus went out with a clear message that they are the world’s best national team. But Frida Karlsson does not agree with that statement at all.
– In the WC, we won eleven out of 14 medals. So that says the most, perhaps. It weighs more than the World Cup, says Karlsson.

“Nice to put the Swedes in their place”
But in Norway, they did not attach much importance to what Frida Karlsson thinks. Instead, the success was celebrated wildly, and there were proud Norwegian skiers afterwards.
– It is something that neither we nor people around us dared to believe before the season. It has been an insanely good winter, says Anne Kjersti Kalvå according to Dagbladet.
She gets the support of Lotta Udnes Weng – who also sends a sour pass to Sweden.
– It’s nice to put the Swedes in their place.
Before the season, the criticism of Norwegian cross-country skiing was great, and people were really worried about the regrowth after Therese Johaug retired. But Tiril Udnes Weng ended up as the overall winner of the World Cup.
– It will take time before this sinks in. It’s unreal. I would never have dared to dream of this before the season. It wasn’t even in my thoughts, she says.
