the house of a Sinjil family burnt down

Fourth day of Ramadan for the Palestinians, and in the north of the West Bank, the tension has risen again a notch. On Saturday evening March 25, two Israeli soldiers were injured in the town of Huwara, on Route 60. And a Palestinian house in the village of Sinjil, between Nablus and Ramallah, was set on fire overnight from Saturday to Sunday by settlers , who allegedly threw Molotov cocktails at the building.

With our correspondent in Ramallah, Alice Froussard

The family of six Palestinians was able to be evacuated. But of their house in the village of Sinjil, nothing remains. The kitchen is charred, the canapes have gone up in smoke. In one room, there remains a stuffed rabbit and some toys. And everywhere, ashes cover the ground.

Ahmed Awashreh lived here with his wife and four children. They had just gone back to sleep after suhoor, the Ramadan meal before sunrise. ” It was 4:55 a.m. when I heard a noise coming from the kitchen, he confides. I got up and saw flames. The settlers were there, they attacked us from behind the house. They then opened the kitchen window and that’s where they threw Molotov cocktails, which caused the house to catch fire. »

He and his family were able to get out in a hurry, thanks to the neighbors who arrived as reinforcements, before the house burned down completely. On videos posted on social networks in the early morning, about twenty Palestinians try to reduce the smoke, save what is left, reassure the children.

Scenes reminiscent of those of Huwara village, a few weeks ago, when the settlers had burned cars, shops, houses. Violence committed with complete impunity, explains Anthony Dutemple, of the NGO Première urgence internationale: “ You never see the settlers being arrested. On the contrary, we often see, unfortunately, the Israeli forces accompanying the settlers, protecting the settlers, during attacks. »

According to the Israeli organization Yesh Din, which provides legal support to Palestinian victims of settler violence, 97% of complaints are dismissed.
