Dr. Karalyn Dueck has officially been appointed medical officer of health for the County of Lambton.
Dueck began as acting medical officer of health Nov. 21.
Public health officials announced Friday that Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, had approved Dueck’s position, previously approved by Lambton County council.
“We were very excited to bring Dr. Dueck on board in November and we are even more excited to finalize her permanent appointment,” said Lambton public health services general manager Andrew Taylor, in a news release.
Dueck was previously acting associate medical officer of health for the Middlesex-London Health Unit and has experience with Region of Peel Public Health, York Region Public Health and as a family physician with the Guelph Community Health Center and the Bramalea Community Health Centre, public health officials said in the release.
She is a licensed member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, a certified family physician with the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and holds the specialty certification as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, considered the gold standard of certification for medical officers of health, public health officials said.
“I am grateful to be in this role and I look forward to continuing the good work of the team at Lambton Public Health as we evolve to continue to meet the needs of and promote the positive health and well-being of our community,” Dueck said in the release.
