Brazilian President Lula da Silva cancels a planned trip to China. The president has suffered from pneumonia, the presidential palace announces.
Lula, 77, has been hospitalized in the capital Brasilia with “flu-like symptoms”. He was diagnosed with both the flu and pneumonia, according to the presidential palace doctor.
Although Lula’s condition improved on Saturday, he was advised to cancel the trip to China.
Lula was scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday. Trade, investments and climate change were on the agenda for the state visit. No new date for the trip has been announced.
