About ten fires have affected several schools in Malmö in a short time. Now the municipality suspects that the fires can be linked to a Tiktok trend. – It is serious. You expose your own business and people to risks, says Demir Kolenovic, security investigator at the City of Malmö. Last Wednesday, the fire alarm went off at Bergaskolan in Limhamn in Malmö. Then someone had set fire to paper and stuck in a smoke detector, writes Sydsvenskan. – We get indications that it is a Tiktok trend, but we take it just as seriously regardless, says Demir Kolenovic, security investigator at Malmö city, to TV4 Nyheterna. The trend in question is to trigger a fire alarm, film and post. Usually it happens in toilets. In addition to Bergaskolan, there have been several other schools, including Stenkulaskolan, Linnéskolan and Rörsjöskolan-Zenith. All schools are located in the western and central parts of Malmö. “Support from the rescue service” Demir Kolenovic says that the city of Malmö has implemented various measures to increase fire protection to overcome the problem. – The businesses have taken in support from the emergency services and had consequential discussions with students and informed guardians. – In the long term, we are looking at replacing the sanitary materials in the public toilets with non-flammable ones to limit the spread if there is a fire, says Demir Kolenovic. If the fires have a connection to the Tiktok trend, there is nothing the Malmö police or the emergency services can confirm, Sydsvenskan writes.
