The moderate Member of Parliament Kjell Jansson is said to have been blackmailed by a woman after a sex night. He is now himself suspected of buying sex – and is taking time out from his political commitments. The moderates’ group leader Mattias Karlsson comments on the investigation for TV4 Nyheterna directly from the Sweden meeting in Karlstad. – It is an extremely serious accusation. Accused of buying sex Kjell Jansson had sex with a 25-year-old woman in his overnight apartment in December 2022, according to the indictment. The woman took a picture of the occasion. Before they separated, Jansson gave the woman 5,000 kroner, according to himself, because she asked for money for a taxi and help with the rent. A few days later, the blackmail began. The woman accused the parliamentarian of having bought sex from her and also threatened him with spreading the picture. According to the investigation, the woman made the member of parliament pay for a chest operation of SEK 50,000 so that the threats would not come true. The blackmail continued – for months The blackmail continued for months. He allegedly paid for a television, a travel ticket and additional rents. In the end, he went to Säpo and said that the woman “used that picture as a weapon”. The news agency Siren reported yesterday that the woman was charged with aggravated extortion against Kjell Jansson for a total of SEK 65,000. She is also suspected of attempted gross extortion of another SEK 20,000. Now the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber has started a preliminary investigation against the same member of parliament, confirms prosecutor Maria Sterup. The man is suspected of buying sexual services, something Dagens Nyheter was the first to report on. Stepping down from political assignments Anna Björklund, the lawyer of the woman accused of extortion, says in a written comment: – My client has no interest in discussing the matter in the media. We await the district court’s verdict in the extortion case and the police’s investigation into the sex purchase. Otherwise, we have no comments. Kjell Jansson is now stepping down from all his assignments, the party announces. “The member has taken a time out from all his commitments. It is standard procedure in legal trials and the legal process must now be allowed to take its course. Our starting point is that it is good that suspicions are investigated and cannot comment on the events further at this time,” writes Ida Karlbom, communications manager for the county association in Stockholm, to TV4 Nyheterna.
