Wagner’s increasingly isolated leader Yevgeny Prigozhin sounds the alarm about Ukrainian counter-attacks – going against the Russian propaganda line – in a 20-minute clip. Prigozhin further says that he is no longer reaching Russian authorities. The Russian propaganda hammers home an image that Russia’s “special operation” in Ukraine is in fact a larger clash with a NATO with Ukraine as a kind of tool. The leader of the Russian mercenary forces in Wagner objects: Russia is not fighting NATO at all, he announces via his Telegram channel. – We are at war only with the Ukrainian army, with certain groups of psychopathic mercenaries who only want to kill Russians, says Yevgeny Prigozhin in a roughly 20-minute long film clip sitting at a table with a large map of Ukraine. It is “ridiculous” to claim that Russia’s leadership did not expect NATO to support Ukraine, according to the Wagner leader. Progozhin asked for ammunition The Russian power center, the Kremlin, seems to have increasingly distanced itself from Wagner. In an open letter the other week from Prigozhin to the Russian military leadership, he asked for ammunition, a request that seems to have gone cold. The Wagner soldiers have suffered enormous losses during months of fighting. The soldiers the group recruited from Russian prisons over the past year have been at the forefront of what has been described as a “meat grinder”. Prigozhin has highlighted that it was Wagner who was about to take over the disputed city of Bachmut – but the group has barely been mentioned by Russian officials. Prigozhin has said that phone lines to the Kremlin are cut. – To get me to stop asking for ammunition, all phone lines to chancelleries, to the ministries and so on have been cut off for me. But the real scandal is that they have stopped the authorities from making decisions linked to Wagner, Prigozhin said the other week. See pictures of Yevgeny Prigozhin in the clip above.
