Frida Karlsson fell ill after the WC.
Now she wants to see a change next season.
– I think it should be reviewed, she says to SVT.
Frida Karlsson was the big gold favorite in the longer distances before the WC. She won the overall Tour de Ski and looked to be in absolutely brilliant form when the setback came. Karlsson fell ill, and in retrospect she has admitted that it took more of a toll on her body than she gave the impression.
Big setback
After a WC where Karlsson really had to work hard for his medals, it didn’t take long before the next setback came. Frida Karlsson was actually supposed to participate in the historic five-mile in Holmenkollen, which was only a week after the WC ended, but a cold stopped her from doing so. And Frida Karlsson still hasn’t competed since the three-mile that ended the WC.
The cold that Karlsson contracted has been long-lasting, and kept her away longer than planned. However, Karlsson will compete in Lahtis this weekend – but at the same time sends a pass to the International Ski Federation. Karlsson believes that you should take a serious look at how you plan the season. In Holmenkollen’s five-mile race, only 32 riders lined up, and Karlsson believes that it has to do with poor planning.

Karlsson’s criticism
Now Karlsson believes that you should always have a week off after a championship, in contrast to how it has been now.
– I think the program should be reviewed, after a championship everyone is tired and it is easy to contract illnesses and such. If you want everyone to participate in the races, which I assume you want, then I think you should have a free weekend after the championships and also after the tour, she says.
Many have also pointed out that it would have possibly made it easier for the riders to put the WC, where you use your strength the most, at the end of the season. But Karlsson doesn’t want that.
– No I do not think so. After the WC, you want to ride everything, there is nothing to save on then. I think it’s in a good position, but I think you can look at where we can get a small gap.
