It was in Secret Story 10 that Sarah Lopez was revealed. Since then, she shines in the arms of her companion, Gérald, and has been sporting a nice round belly for a few months. But the mother-to-be experienced an episode of stress: the doctor who follows her spotted a strange swelling on her leg. Explanations.
A strangely swollen leg
It is from her Instagram account that Sarah Lopez confided in this worrying symptom.
“She (the health professional, editor’s note) saw my swollen leg, so she urgently prescribed me an echo-doppler of the lower limbs”, reveals the mom-to-be, before adding “She told me that sometimes it was trivial, but sometimes it could hide something else…“
As a precaution, the young woman also carried out blood tests. Result ? A few hours after these examinations, the news was reassuring.
“No venous insufficiency, no phlebitis. So happy ! On the other hand, she told me that I had enormous edema in my right leg. It’s water retention. She gave me all the exams and everything I did, and tomorrow I have an appointment with my gynecologist, so I’ll tell you a little more. Either way, I’m pretty relieved!“, confided the mother-to-be.
Swollen leg during pregnancy: when to worry?
If the swelling of the lower limb of the star was not worrying here, this symptom should not be taken lightly. According to Dr. Bagot, this symptom should alert “immediately”.
In effect, “There is an increased risk of phlebitis during pregnancy. However, this can lead to a fatal pulmonary embolism when the clot goes up in the leg.”
Therefore, any “discomfort or heaviness in the calf should lead to urgent consultation“, insists the expert.
A symptom, to differentiate from simple swollen ankles at the end of the day – due to water retention.
