Bird flu discovered on a farm in Skåne

Bird flu has been confirmed on a farm in Kävlinge municipality in Skåne, the Swedish Agricultural Agency announces in a press release.
The outbreak was discovered after sampling at a breeding facility with broiler parent animals. The authority has decided to block off the farm and that nearly 22,000 animals are to be euthanized. The buildings in question must then be cleaned up.
The virus in the current case is H5N1, a variant that has been circulating in Europe and Sweden since 2020. (TT)

Two billion people drink contaminated water
Poorly functioning – or non-existent – sewage treatment means that two billion people in the world get their drinking water from sources contaminated by faeces.
They are therefore at risk of suffering from cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio, writes the UN in a report released ahead of a large water conference with 6,500 participants to be held in New York this week.
Threats to water availability are increasing as a result of overconsumption and overutilization, according to the report. (TT)
Half a million on the run from Cyclone Freddy
Cyclone Freddy, which hit Malawi last week, has forced half a million people to leave their homes, according to the United Nations.
During six days, as much rain fell as the country normally receives during six months. Landslides and floods have destroyed homes, roads and bridges.
500 people have been confirmed dead, 1,300 have been injured and 427 are still missing in the impoverished southern African country.
Search and rescue operations are underway, and 500 evacuation centers have opened. According to the UN, the need for emergency aid such as shelter, food and water is great.
Freddy has also forced 160,000 people from their homes in Madagascar and Mozambique. (TT)
Six people arrested after serious assault
Six perpetrators, men aged 15-20, could be arrested and detained this evening, suspected of a serious assault in Södertälje
They are suspected of assaulting two teenage boys in a shop.
The police described the assault as violent. Goods and furnishings are said to have been knocked over in the store where the fight took place.
None of the boys who were hit were in need of medical care.
Prosecutors have decided that the six arrested will continue to be detained.
Man shot in Vårby
A man has been found shot outside in Vårby farm.
A large operation is underway at the scene with heavily armed police.
– We collect information and try to find out as much as possible about why and who is behind it, says Towe Hägg.
The injured man is taken to hospital by ambulance.

Man seriously injured in snowmobile accident
An accident involving a snowmobile occurred in Orsa municipality on Tuesday evening.
The scooter driver has driven into a tree and been seriously injured, the police write on their website.

The accident happened in a small community around 8 p.m.
– We are still at the scene and are investigating what has happened. There are people who have seen this accident, says police spokesperson Sophia Jiglind to TT.
Details: Person arrested in their absence
According to information to Aftonbladet, a person has been arrested in his absence, suspected of involvement in the murder of Joullnar, 43, outside Jönköping.
The person in question must, according to Aftonbladet’s information, be a resident of Jönköping County.
The police stated earlier today that they have no suspected perpetrator in the case.
– We are very careful in what we do to try to capture all alternative courses of events. It’s an open field at the moment, said Stefan Sundling, group leader at the police department for serious crimes in Jönköping.
Three people stabbed in home – two men arrested
Three people have been stabbed in a home in Billingsfors in Bengtsfors municipality.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
At 6:43 p.m., the police received a call that a young man had been stabbed in a residence. He has been taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
– The situation is stable for that guy but serious, says police spokesperson Stefan Gustafsson.
Later it emerged that another guy had been injured with a knife. Both must be between 15-20 years old.
After questioning people who were at the scene, it emerged that another person had been stabbed.
The two people were treated at an emergency care centre.
At the same time, the police have been able to arrest two suspicious men, at a different address than the crime scene.
Both are suspected of attempted murder.
The crime scene has been cordoned off and police technicians are on their way.
The police could not enter into any motive for what happened that evening.
– First, an interrogation must be held, says Stefan Gustafsson.
Five dead from the Marburg virus in Tanzania
Five people have died from the Marburg virus in Tanzania, AFP reports.
Three people are being treated in hospital after the outbreak.
The virus is very deadly: Up to 88 percent of those infected die from the disease, according to the WHO.
Earlier in February, the WHO announced that cases of the virus had been detected in the Central African country of Equatorial Guinea, where several deaths had been reported.
The Public Health Agency writes that the virus is usually spread via fruit bats that are found around Africa. But according to FHM, risks for the spread of infection in Sweden must be low.
Several dead in strong earthquake
At least nine people have died in a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan.
The earthquake measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, reports Reuters. It occurred at a depth of 194 kilometers and its epicenter was in the Hindukush mountain range.
According to TT, the quake lasted for at least 30 seconds and was felt in large parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Over ten people are said to have been injured in northwest Pakistan.
“People ran out of their houses quoting the Koran,” said a correspondent from the AFP news agency in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi.
The quake was felt as far away as India’s capital, New Delhi.
Fire in solarium: “Heavy spread of smoke”
A fire broke out in a solarium in the center of Täby on Tuesday.
A large number of units were called to the scene.
– The fire is out and we are now investigating so that it does not spread further. There has been heavy smoke spread in other stairwells as well, says the rescue service’s management operator Roger Sverndal.
One person was taken care of by the emergency services during the operation.

Collision in tunnel – several cars involved
An accident has occurred in the Marieholm Tunnel in Gothenburg, in the middle of the evening rush hour.

“Probably no injuries, but given the time, it could mean a major traffic impact,” the police write on their website.
The Swedish Transport Administration expects that traffic at the site will be affected until at least 6.20 pm.

Hello! The man whose name and picture we published is sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
Life-sentenced murderers are often named, because the public interest in those cases often outweighs possible publicity damage.
The other man, whose name and picture we have not published, was convicted of aggravated robbery.
But all cases are different. And name publication is decided on a case-by-case basis.
