Shortly after 23:00 on Tuesday evening, Brynä’s Canadian Greg Scott decided the fourth match in the relegation qualifier away to Malmö.
The Malmö players protested the 4–3 goal, which came at 8:16 into the second extra period, but it was approved.
— I actually see, but some people think it’s offside. But the referee has a good position, so you have to trust him, says the Skåne team captain Fredrik Händemark.
After three straight victories – 5–2, 5–2 and 4–3 – Brynäs saved the first match point in the fateful qualifier. The loser gets to play in the Hockey Allsvenskan next season – the winner stays in the SHL. The next match is played on Thursday in Gävle.
— It’s first to four (wins), so it doesn’t change much. We have three wins and they have one, says Händemark.
For the first time in a long time it was sold out in the Malmö arena – 12,600 spectators were present. Most were, naturally, Malmö supporters.
— Mighty. Wonderful to play, you should have it like this every game. The audience did their part, I’m happy for everyone who came, says Fredrik Händemark.
TT: But you don’t want a replay on Saturday?
“No, I’d rather decide on Thursday,” Händemark says with a smile.
