The general consensus in the US media is that Trump is to blame. If that happens, Trump will be brought from his Florida home to New York, where he will be fingerprinted and photographed.
The New York Police Department and the FBI are reportedly considering a possible arrest, as well as contacting the US Secret Service, which is tasked with protecting former and current US presidents.
The decision whether to file a criminal complaint against Trump rests with New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“We will not tolerate attempts to threaten the rule of law or try to intimidate us in New York,” Bragg sent an e-mail to his employees on Saturday.
This email was sent after Trump called his supporters to protest if he was arrested.
WHAT HAPPENS IF TRUMP IS ARRESTED?
If found guilty, Trump’s lawyers said standard procedures would be followed in arresting the former president.
In other words, Trump will go from his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida to the New York City courthouse, where he will give fingerprints and have a criminal photo taken.
It is unclear how such a historic initiative would be implemented given the security concerns with Trump. The initiative will likely be the subject of negotiations between the district attorney’s office and Trump’s legal team.
