After Abidjan, it was in Paris in 1988 that Jean-Michel Basquiat met the Ivorians Auguste Mimi Errol and Ouattara Watts, then living in France. They invite him back to their home, and prepare to welcome him, hoping they can also cure him of his drug addiction. But he died a few months later, before being able to join them in Côte d’Ivoire, where his artistic freedom nevertheless paved the way for many painters.
