Linn Persson has had a giant breakthrough this winter.
Now she opens up about the unknown struggle that has held her back.
“The body needs to be handed in to the workshop,” she writes.
Linn Persson became Sweden’s big exclamation point during this year’s WC. It was indeed Hanna Öberg who won the gold, but Linn Persson stepped forward after being in the shadow of the sisters for several years, and won her very first individual championship medals.
Opens up about the troubles
Her breakthrough has been impressive – but even more so considering her problems with her body. Linn Persson now reveals that throughout the season she struggled with injuries in several places in her body, and that she defied the pain and did not develop as she wanted. She also believes that there was uncertainty about whether she could compete at all throughout this season.
On Instagram, Linn Persson now talks honestly about the big problems she had.
“This season has been something of a bonus for me. This summer, after checking the left shoulder, which has been in trouble for many years, it was concluded that it probably needs surgery. We thought it was too late into the season and decided that it can last another year,” she writes.
“Around the same time, a groin began to have problems and the training had to be adapted to both groin and shoulder,” she continues.

“Would I have to break?”
Linn Persson says that the balancing act with training, with pain in both shoulder and groin, has been tough.
“When it was time to go on snow, my groin problems worsened and the uncertainty of even starting in the winter competitions was great. Later it would also be established that the groin needs surgery. Would I have to break the season before it had even started?”, she writes.
In conclusion, Linn Persson believes, in order to give herself the best possible conditions, that she will need surgery.
“In order to be able to train and compete properly in the future, without gravel in the machinery, this body needs to be returned to the workshop,” she writes.
Linn Persson tells SVT that it is an operation in the groin, and that a decision is then made if it is also needed in the shoulder.
