But recently the Norwegian went out and apologized to the Swede.

The Norwegian ski profile Peter Northug made himself known as a real bully during his active career. The cocky Norwegian really loved sending giggles and cheeky jokes via the journalists to the Swedish riders.
Northug’s apology
Northug was at his best when he won a race, which the legend often did when he dominated skiing for a few years. Swedish Calle Halfvarsson usually ended up in the window when the outspoken Norwegian was in the mood to tease.

Halfvarsson and Northug were arch-rivals on the tracks for a long time and Petter also coined the term “Calle Clown” which the Norwegian media liked to use in their headlines about the Swede. But after his career, the Norwegian regrets it and during the World Ski Championships he openly apologized to his old enemy.

Halfvarsson’s answer
Northug has a bad conscience because he went too hard on Halfvarsson and started a far too big storm of criticism in Norway over the years.
– Yes, of course I have. We were enemies like active and I didn’t even greet him. He was one of my rivals, so I wanted to give Calle a bad name in Norway. And then I also brought the people into it, Northug admitted in an interview with SportExpressen.
– So yes, it is clear that it is my fault that Calle got a lot of shit. At least partially. But at the same time… I’ve also made Calle famous, haven’t I? Thanks to me, people talked about him. Then he is also very outspoken himself, so you can count on some comments back.

After the last World Cup race in Norwegian Drammen, Calle Halfvarsson also had the chance to respond to Northug’s words about him and the apology from the Norwegian. But the Swedish national team veteran does not buy at all that Petter Northug has regrets.
– No, he says that just to fuck. I know how he works. He absolutely does not need to apologize for that, he was right, says Halfvarsson to the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.

Halfvarsson also does not believe that Northug means what he has said over the years, but that it was mostly a spectacle in front of the media.
