Both teams had their guns loaded and ready when the game between Florida and Montreal began on Friday night. In the space of 13 minutes and 18 seconds, Florida had scored seven goals and visiting Montreal three.
Sweden’s Gustav Forsling was one of the participants in the record-breaking goal celebration and was responsible for Florida’s 3-2 goal, six minutes into the first period where Montreal’s Mike Matheson opened the scoring after just 16 seconds.
The seven goals in the first set a Florida club record for most goals in one period. The club’s previous record was six goals in one period, which was achieved during a meeting with Boston in April 2000.
— I have never seen anything like it. In 25 years I have never seen so many goals. There were more goals than chances and that’s not normal, Florida coach Paul Maurice said after the game.
