With the series Die Gabe, Amazon Prime Video is launching one of its biggest sci-fi projects of the year in just a few weeks. The film is based on the bestseller of the same name (original title: The Power) by Naomi Alderman, in which a new world order arises when all women on earth suddenly have the gift of emitting deadly electric shocks.
The template won many fans, including former US President Barack Obama, with its captivating mix of sci-fi and mystery. Shortly before the start of the series, the anticipation is now being given a huge damper. The problems behind the scenes can no longer be overlooked.
The Gabe director wants nothing more to do with Amazon’s sci-fi series
As reported by Deadline, director and executive producer Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale) has now asked that her name be removed from the series. She directed the first two episodes and has been involved in the adaptation since 2019. That Morano no longer be associated with the Amazon series doesn’t reflect well on the production, which has already struggled with all sorts of problems.

Auli’i Cravalho plays one of the main roles in The Gift
According to the report, Reed Morano left the project in March 2022 after completing the first two episodes. A little later it became known that the two actors Leslie Mann and Tim Robbins also jumped off. Their roles were recast by Toni Collette and Josh Charles and the previous scenes had to be reshot by other directors.
More than three years have passed since shooting began in February 2020. The production of The Gift was by Filming delays, cast changes and creative differences plagued. Instead of the ordered 10 episodes, the first season of The Gift now only has 9 episodes. Can the series do justice to the template despite all the problems? We can convince ourselves of this in just a few weeks.
