Starting as the game director of the men’s super soccer club Manse PP Jani Komulainen hasn’t even had time to meet the team yet, but assures that he has a boyish enthusiasm towards the nest.
The club inquired about Komulainen’s interest in being a game manager just two weeks ago.
Komulainen’s earlier decision to take a gap year was suddenly reversed when a top club asked.
– I’ve seen a lot in the field, and I’ve actually been on the field for 39 years in some way, but I’ve never been in a situation like this before, says Komulainen.
A player legend released from the position of head coach Toni Kohonen and he considers the uproar around Manse PP to be extremely unfortunate.
– The situation is unfortunate for the team, the club and Toni. No one probably hoped that things would go this way and that we would end up in this situation.
Komulainen says that Manse PP is still a young and developing club, and the processes of club work are still going forward.
– When there are passionate baseball people around, things can always happen and things can be discussed. If there is no passion, nothing will happen.
Jumping on a moving train
The Komulainen has a clear idea of how the project towards the decisive games of the fall will be set in motion. For him, the coming weekend will be a study weekend about the team’s situation.
As soon as Thursday, we will go over the shared values together with the team.
– All activities are based on how you do things, how you experience things in the team and what that team is. That’s where we start, says Komulainen.
During the week, the plan is to test all possible physical characteristics of the players and map their strengths and weaknesses.
– In practice, we study for a week and then the development of the game begins. After that, you can start thinking about how this team will succeed.
What is Komulainen’s team like?
Komulainen says his leadership style is such that there is not just one truth that comes from the leader’s mouth. The players must participate in the process and accept the things that the game director wants to take forward.
– It is obvious that the game cannot be ready immediately. Those goals are in the fall, and the game will be built piece by piece.
The biggest challenge is how to get the team to work together and how teamwork works in outdoor and indoor play.
Some of the players are already familiar to Komulainen. The team has experienced players who know what it takes to win and young players who can take the next leap.
