Especially newcomers have done good business in these Provincial Council elections. Based on more than 80 percent of the votes counted throughout the Netherlands, Volt, JA21 and BBB are on a win, with even a monster victory for the latter in prospect. The progressive and pro-European Volt seems to get almost 3 percent of the vote, doing better than, for example, the SGP (2.7 percent), 50PLUS (2.3 percent) or Belang van Nederland (1 percent). Party leader Laurens Dassen thinks it is “great” that his party’s “optimistic” sound seems to be catching on, he said in front of the NOS camera.
