Last minute… A critical development took place in the Black Sea, where the whole world was locked in tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Two warplanes of the Spanish Air Force, deployed in Bulgaria on February 11, took off due to the approach of foreign aircraft in the east of the Black Sea.
GOING TO ALARM
General Emil Eftimov, Chief of the General Staff of Bulgaria, told the press that the Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon II type aircraft needed to be put on alert due to the warning perceived as an “uncertain threat”.
Eftimov, “Foreign planes have been detected approaching in the eastern region of the Black Sea. Spanish jets returned to their base before they could identify the planes that entered the radars.” said.
THEY PROTECT BULGARIA’S AIRSPACE
4 Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon II type warplanes belonging to the Spanish Air Force and 130 Spanish military personnel serving them are deployed at Graf Ignatievo Air Base in Bulgaria to do 2 months of Air Policing in the country.
INSUFFICIENT AGAINST RUSSIAN JETS
The jet fleet of the Bulgarian air force, consisting of nearly 15 MiG-21 and Mig-29 type aircraft, is nearing the end of its technological life.
Bulgarian jets, which frequently take off in the Black Sea due to the defiant flights of Russian warplanes, have insufficient capacity.
For this reason, Bulgaria purchased 4 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets from the USA. (AA)
