DNA traces gave hit in seven-year-old rape

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Last October, a rape was reported in a black taxi in Tyresö. Soon after, the suspected perpetrator contacted the victim via text message. A few months later he was arrested by the police. After questioning, the suspect was DNA tested, and only a week later his DNA was matched with a rape that took place seven years earlier, in 2016, where traces were secured. The investigation into this case had been closed as there were no traces of the perpetrator – until now.

— It was the same mode. A young, lonely woman who had taken a black taxi after a night out. But we had no suspect there. There were no cameras or anything to go on. The police report was not received until several months later, but on the night of the crime the plaintiff visited the hospital. Samples were taken and saved. We now had a DNA match, says Anders Forsberg, case officer for serious crimes in the Stockholm south police area.

By tracking the suspect’s cell phone, another case has emerged regarding a rape that will take place in November 2022.

– We now have a full meeting with the case from 2016, and we await answers from the cases in October and November, both of which can tie him to the place where it is supposed to have happened, says Forsberg.

The man is now in custody for a total of three rapes. The prosecutor is expected to file charges at the end of March.
