Today it (in its various versions) is considered one of the best, if not the best, sci-fi film of all time. In 2017 followed the sequel Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling and original star Harrison Ford and next the world of replicants is to be further explored in a series. Blade Runner 2099 is the working title of the Amazon production, which may now have found its first star.

So far, there is no officially confirmed information about the cast of the series. But reportedly Jodie Comer from The Last Duel and Killing Eve is in negotiations for Blade Runner 2099. The report goes back to journalist Jeff Sneider, who addressed it on the YouTube show The Hot Mic (via Coming Soon). There are two things to note here: Sneider is well connected in the industry, so his word carries some weight. So far, however, none of the usual industry journals have picked up the report, which suggests a murky source situation.

In any case, Sneider explains the story like this: After The Last Duel, Jodie Comer was interested in working with director Ridley Scott again, but this was not possible – until the Blade Runner series.

What is known about the science fiction series

There are still no details on the characters, let alone the character Jodie Comer would play. So much is known about Blade Runner 2099:

  • The series takes place 50 years after the last movie starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
  • The story was teased like this in the official press release: “We’re extremely excited to expand the Blade Runner canon into new areas with the provocative actionthat Silka created.”
  • Silka Luisa, who shouldered the thriller series Shining Girls for Apple, was hired as showrunner.
  • Ridley Scott is involved with his company Scott Free. The same goes for Michael Green. The Blade Runner 2049 screenwriter is on board as a producer.
  • The writing staff includes Watchmen producer and Leftovers writer Tom Spezialy.
