Russian President Vladimir Putin made statements to Russian state television regarding the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines. Stating that an investigation should be carried out to shed light on the incident, Putin said, “It is very difficult to conduct our own investigation if they do not allow us to enter the place where the terrorist act took place. It is no longer a secret for anyone that this is an act of terrorism. I think everyone has accepted this now. Moreover, it is clear that this is a terrorist act committed at the state level, because no amateur can commit such an act,” he said.
Describing the allegations that Ukrainian sabotage groups attacked gas pipelines as “nonsense”, Putin argued that only countries with technological competence could carry out these attacks. “This is complete nonsense. Only experts can do this type of explosion, of this magnitude, of this depth, and experts who are fully supported by a state with certain technologies,” said Putin.

Stating that the Danish side gave Gazprom approval to conduct an investigation at the explosion points of the pipelines, Putin said that Russian experts came across interesting findings and said, “Gazprom experts detected a needle about 30 kilometers from the explosion site. This needle is located in a place similar to the one where the explosion took place. “In other words, it was located near the pipe connection, which is the most sensitive part of the pipes. Our experts think that it may be an antenna to receive the signal that triggered the detonator. I do not claim, but I say it may be, another explosive may have been placed under the pipeline,” he said.
Calling for a joint team to be formed in case of another bomb, Putin said, “We ask the Danish administration to allow us to do all the necessary research, by forming a group of experts who can work at this depth, alone or in partnership with them, and of course, to defuse this bomb, if any. But we received a reply that they should consider our application to the Danish administration. They said they would respond to us when they found it appropriate. We got such an ambiguous response,” he said.
