The young people have been selected on the basis of a recruitment base of roughly 107,000 people born in 2005. After the recruitment, around 7,000 young people go on to conscription training which is between six and fifteen months long and is carried out at one of the defense units in Sweden. The first start of education is summer 2024.
“The young people who are now being called up and enrolled in basic education with conscription will make an important contribution to the operational ability of the military units and thus to the defense of Sweden,” says Christina Malm, Director General of the Duty and Probation Office in a press release.
