Throne and Liberty is an upcoming MMORPG that is already highly anticipated by fans. It’s supposed to be released in 2023, but will there be a beta before that?

As a survey on MeinMMO showed, fans of MMORPGs look forward to no game as much as Throne and Liberty.

The developers NCSoft announced tests in South Korea for the end of February, which took place over 2 days. 100 players were allowed to participate, but only if they were in Korea at the time. You could play for a maximum of 5 hours on both days.

Final testing in Korea, release nearing

According to the developers, the Korean beta was the final test. It is therefore very likely that there will be no further tests – neither in Korea nor here in the West.

Instead, the planned release date of Throne and Liberty is getting closer: The MMORPG should appear in the first half of 2023, i.e. in June 2023 at the latest. NCSoft has not yet given an exact date.

We now know that Amazon will be the publisher of the MMORPG and it will probably appear on Steam. In addition, the release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is planned at the same time as the PC version.

Reports from the beta sounded partly negative

The February beta was actually enshrined in a non-disclosure agreement, but some information about the MMORPG leaked out anyway. So we were able to learn a few things in advance through reddit and Korean forums.

  • According to the developers, the combat system should be very action-packed – the testers criticize it and describe it as static and boring. It uses tab targeting.
  • The big focus in the endgame is on PvP, which tends to deter PvE fans.
  • The story is supposed to be more of a kind of summary of the events and generally very erratic.

    • A few things were praised, however. This includes the graphics. The character editor and environment also received praise from the beta testers.

    However, keep in mind that this was a “secret” test. The final version may differ in many respects.
