If you’ve wondered in Destiny 2 why you’re getting one-hit kills from Cabal Threshers, Interceptors, Scorpio Turrets, or even Elevators, it’s very likely not your skill or power level. Because even in Season 20, the loot shooter is plagued by an annoying and ancient bug that you should definitely know about.
What serious problem is plaguing Destiny 2? In the Bungie universe, the Guardians are no longer afraid of giant raid bosses, but of elevators. The reason is that the so-called “FPS bug” has existed for several years.
It makes the game unnecessarily difficult for guardians with good hardware in particular and has never been properly fixed for years. For example, he’s also the reason why some Guardians in the elevator of Calu’s ship are thrown around during the campaign like a mad bouncy ball that is thrown into the next corner by the current when it lands instead of landing softly. And not only that.
This means that the more modern your hardware is, the more often you will be killed in Destiny 2 if you don’t drastically limit your FPS. 1 rocket from a Cabal ship or a mini bump from a cable catcher is enough.
What is meant by the term “FPS”?:
FPS stands for “frames per seconds”. The FPS value indicates how many frames per second appear on a screen and therefore how smoothly the picture runs. The term “frame rate” is also often used. So it depends on your hardware whether you can play a game smoothly or not. In gaming it is often crucial to achieve a high FPS number.
More and more players are pointing out drastic bugs: The bug in question has been in the game for several years and has basically never been properly fixed. Bungie has had the problem on its to-do list several times, but it’s never really gone away.
In the meantime, however, a veritable FPS research group has formed on reddit for this elephant in the room, which is getting to the bottom of the matter with hard facts. Mainly because Bungie is quite sparse with information about this problem, which has not escaped the players.
I get it, Destiny is a huge game with a messy engine that requires incredibly complicated work to fix bugs without the whole thing crashing. I won’t pretend I have any idea how [der FPS-Bug] could be fixed. […] However, what bothers me more is Bungie’s approach of only patching it for the most obvious sources, then removing it from the known issues list and burying our heads in the sand, hoping no one notices.

It’s almost as if this FPS issue is buried so deep in Destiny’s engine that even the developer has found it impossible to completely eliminate it.
The data collected by Guardian Aercus, which he performed on the PS4 and PS5 versions of Destiny 2, is available on reddit and paints a devastating picture of the problem:
However, the player noted that more tests are needed, including on PC. Here, however, MeinMMO was already able to contribute its own “laser test” results to the FPS bug from Season 19. We’ve also confirmed that if you’re playing at 60+ FPS, you’ll have significantly faster deaths on PC.
If you play Destiny 2 with hardware that is too good, you will die almost twice as fast
Especially on the PC, it is an absolute no-go for many players to gamble with less than 60 FPS just because damage and high FPS are combined in a game. Even if this should be a quirk of the core engine.
However, it remains to be seen whether Bungie will eventually be able to solve this problem and, above all, permanently.
Lowering the framerate is an active benefit: As long as this is not the case, players need to be aware that the game physics and mechanics in Destiny 2 are obviously bound to the frame rate and you will clearly feel this in the game.
Until then, in Destiny 2: Those who play with low FPS or artificially lower their frame rate in the Destiny 2 settings menu will survive longer and be able to play better in many activities.
Have you already wondered why you die so often in Neomuna from the Cabal ships or interceptors? Or do you already deliberately play with 30-60 FPS for this life advantage? How critical do you think the problem is overall? Does it bother you or do you not care about high FPS so you are not affected by it? Please tell us in the comments.
