The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU)is investigating the death of a 67-year-old St. George man.
The SIU said Brant County OPP officers went to the man’s property in the area of Highway 5 and Brant Road in St. George on March 11 to conduct a wellness check. The next day officers received another call for service and upon arrival found the man deceased on the property.
Two investigators and a forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. A post-mortem will be scheduled, the SIU said in a statement.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials – police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service – that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
Following an investigation, the SIU director is required to consider whether the official has committed a criminal offense in connection with the incident under investigation. Depending on the evidence, the director must decide if a criminal charge should be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid.
As well, the SIU director is required to publicly report the results of its investigations.
