Armand Duplantis is the world’s best pole vaulter in modern times.
But now he opens up about the dark moments alongside the success.

Mondo’s greatness
“Mondo” has already won everything there is to win at just 23 years old and it feels like he’s only competing against himself these days. In 2022 alone, the Swedish superstar won WC gold both outdoors and indoors, European Championship gold outdoors, overall victory in the Diamond League and broke three world records.

All indications are that Duplantis will continue to pile up gold medals and rack up more record jumps. He himself admits that he is genuinely happy at the moment.
– Right now I’m enjoying my existence so much. I get to compete on the big world stage and I get to do what I love. I really appreciate all those moments, says Mondo in the podcast “Mind Set Win”, which is made by his own sponsor Red Bull.

Duplanti’s doubt
Duplantis also shares his keys to becoming the best in the world and how he himself has managed to reach the top. In addition to feeling great gratitude for what you do, you must set clear goals and then work hard towards them if you want to succeed in achieving something in life.
– You have to have some kind of plan, some kind of goal that you want to achieve. Because if you don’t actually try to achieve something, you won’t succeed in anything either, he says in the interview.

But there are also those occasions when even Armand Duplantis doubts himself. Now he opens up about his dark moments and the only times he actually gets nervous.
– The problem is when I’m at home and have time to think about everything. Because that’s when I get the most nervous and doubt myself the most. Then I get thoughts like “what if this happens, or if that happens, what if I lose”, he admits in the podcast.
