On Saturday, Pori’s Narukerä celebrated the second ice hockey Finnish championship in its club history. Narukerä beat Mikkeli Kampparit 7–3 (4–0) in the final match played in Pori.
The championship pitcher returned to Pori after 25 years of waiting. Narukerä’s previous championship came in 1999. Saturday’s final match was watched by more than 2,300 spectators.
To the delight of the Pori crowd, Narukerä took a 4–0 lead already in the first half, and Kampparit did not rise to threaten victory in the second half of the match either.
Rope coach Tuomas Erkkilä was happy that the team hit the table at the right moment.
– Our finishing was really clinical today, but on the other hand, I would say that we played our best game of the season as a whole. And when the best game of the season comes in the right place, the end result is like this. We didn’t make many mistakes and it shows on the scoreboard as well. It feels really great, Erkkilä beamed.
Lappeenranta’s Veiterä took the SC bronze. In the bronze medal match, Porvoo’s Achilles succumbed.
