(Finance) – Two out of five cars sold in the last three years were bought by a woman. In 2022, the cars purchased by the female component amounted to 41.6% of the total, substantially stable compared to 43% in 2021. “Even if the trend of progressive increase in new car buyers has stopped, the link between women and the automobile is confirmed to be solid also in 2022, above all if one considers that the share could be even higher if women who use cars registered to men could also be included”. That’s what he said Cristiana Petrucci, head of the UNRAE Studies and Statistics Centrepresenting the updated data on March 9 at Pink Motor Day, the annual event dedicated to female mobility.

In the choice of engines among female drivers the leadership, unlike the men’s market where it switched to hybrids, still belongs to petrol car with a more or less stable share at 36.8%, 20 points less than the 57% of 2019. Instead, the race of hybrids which rise to 35.4%, while the decline of diesel continues below 10%, surpassed in third place by LPG cars (13.2%). “In the next year, the positioning of hybrids in first place also among women is foreseeable, as has already happened in the men’s market, where, however – she continues Petrucci – the overtaking took place at the expense of diesel, which fell faster due to stringent environmental regulations”.

As for theage of the buyersthe band 46-55 years old remains the most representative at 27.1%, followed by the band 30-45 years old at 26.4% and in third place are confirmed the 56-65 year olds with 22.4%. The over 65 although down to 15.2%, they are firmly in fourth place, while the youngest 18-29 year olds climb back to 9% after losing more than one point in 2021.

On the male face, the three intermediate age classes have a share that is very aligned with each other (around 23%), while the over 65s are much more representative of women with 22.1%. They are conforming with the male ones i tastes in terms of body color. And so gray, which rises to 35.4%, is now the preferred color and white, which in the past held the leadership, is now in second place but down to 22.8%. On the third step of the podium is black which rises to 13.6%, followed in order by azure/blue which drops to 11.9% and by the lively red stable at 11.1%.

However, the former, as tradition, have spent less, in line with the dimensional difference of the models chosen (84% buy cars in segments A and B against 63% in the men’s world) and an average of 22,400 euros for a car new purchased in 2022, against around 28,500 euros spent by the men.

In conclusion, about total number of cars circulating privately in Italy at the end of 2022, 40% are owned by women (which in relation to the total population over 18 are 52%), and moreover, more than half of the cars driven by women are petrol (52.1%) and about 35% are diesel , while on the contrary half of men drive a diesel and 39% a petrol car. Finally, in 2021, the women who took their driving licence, according to the most updated data of the Ministry of Transportwere over 454,800 (37% of the total novice drivers).
