At first glance, Don’t Worry Darling feels like an extremely contrived look at the 1950s. Alice (Florence Pugh) lives in a quaint suburb, taking care of the house and waiting for her husband, Jack (Harry Styles), to come home from work every day. Life seems uncomplicated and carefree, but behind the flawless facade hides a dark secret.

Without giving too much away, nothing is as it seems in Don’t Worry Darling. Even if one can argue about the resolution of the story, it is a great pleasure to discover peculiarities of the world, which introduces us to Olivia Wilde. The film has an extraordinarily good sense of making this world tangible on a cinematic level, while the main character increasingly loses control.
Which brings us to the next point why Don’t Worry Darling is worth seeing: Florence Pugh. She impressively grows into her role and begins to question the strange surroundings in which she finds herself. The best actor at her side: Chris Pine. Forget the fun-loving Kirk from the Star Trek universe. The Pine in Don’t Worry Darling is extreme scary and uncomfortable.
