The agreement was reached on Friday after talks between French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Paris.

The UK will increase funding to France over the next three years to a total of 541 million euros, corresponding to around 6.2 billion Swedish kronor. This will enable the deployment of “hundreds” of additional French law enforcement officers along the Channel to stop illegal migration, according to a UK government statement.

Macron says the discussions with Sunak mark a “fresh start” between Paris and London after the tensions caused by Brexit.
