In Mexico, a group of at least 6 members of the Jalisco Next Generation Cartel (CJNG) fled the scene after shooting some customers at the facility, setting the area on fire. The security forces stated that the group killed 2 people by shooting and burning 1 person, while 8 people were injured during the attack and in the fire.
THREAT-FILLED PANELS ALSO hung up
After the attack, a banner containing threatening statements was hung in the facility. The banner stated that CJNG claimed responsibility for the attack, and the owner of the facility was threatened with death.
The owner of La Palapa is reportedly linked to a different cartel operating in the area. While the perpetrators of the incident have not been caught yet, the Guanajuato State Prosecutor’s Office announced that an investigation into the incident was launched and multi-faceted operations were organized.
