TOP CHEF 2023. M6 is broadcasting episode 2 of Top Chef 2023 tonight. During the show, viewers will find out which candidate will be eliminated and which will join Hélène Darroze’s secret brigade.
The essential
- M6 is broadcasting the second episode of Top Chef 2023 tonight. 16 candidates compete in this culinary competition where €100,000 is at stake but also a real kick in the stirrup for the chefs who are starting out.
- Three brigades were created in Episode 1. Glenn Viel direct the work of Jeremiah, Matthew, Caesar and Alexander. Philippe Etchebest, meanwhile, has Carla, Danny, Hugo and Sarika under his wing. Finally, chef Paul Pairet gives his advice to Victor, Jean, Jacques and Léo. Two candidates, Albane and Gaston are without brigades at the moment.
- Bérangère and Miguel were eliminated from the main contest last week but they then entered into a parallel competition led by Hélène Darroze who aims to create her own secret brigade.
- Half of the candidates absent from episode 2 of Top Chef, why? This second episode of Top Chef 2023 may seem surprising to viewers because only six competitors will compete among the three brigades while the other six will be opposed next week. This is a way for the production to give the contestants a chance to shine at the start of the show. This also allows jurors to have fewer dishes to judge on the same exercise (transparency and trompe-l’oeil in this case).
Live
20:19 – The Hidden Brigade, it’s starting tonight!
From this Wednesday, March 8, the Hidden Brigade makes its appearance following Top Chef and this, until the official entry of Hélène Darroze into the competition in the quarter-finals. The objective is to assemble a brigade made up of eliminated candidates who compete each week to keep their place in this hidden brigade and then join the competition along the way and win it for the fourth consecutive year. And Hélène Darroze will not be the sole judge of this parallel competition. Indeed, his cousin, Jean-Charles Darroze, himself chef will support the chef. We don’t know yet if it’s for one episode only or for the long term, but we can’t wait to see this family affair!
19:56 – Who is Sébastien Tantot, the guest conductor of episode 2?
During tonight’s episode, devoted to trompe-l’œil, chef Sébastien Tantot is invited. It was he who chose the theme on which the 6 candidates present will compete. The chef officiates and owns a one-star restaurant located in the Oise. He was previously executive chef at Le Petit Nice, a three-star restaurant located in Marseille. He confided in Parisian on his passage in Top Chef: “I appear in hologram, it’s funny! It was shot in December. I was on a green screen. As I am young, they offered me to be a candidate, but my hostel is my priority, I don’t want to be absent. So I’m a guest chef. I was surprised to see that the candidates had recognized me”.
7:30 p.m. – These former Top Chef candidates have won their Michelin star!
The Top Chef show is an incredible springboard for its candidates. Since the start of the M6 culinary competition in 2010, many of them have been praised by the very prestigious Michelin Guide. Find out which ones by clicking on the slideshow below.
19:02 – Why are half of the candidates absent from episode 2?
Episode 2 of Top Chef 2023 adopts a rather surprising form which will not go unnoticed by viewers on M6. Indeed, half of the contestants of the season will be absent from the episode! We will therefore only see two candidates from each brigade compete while the other half of the participants will be cooking next week. For information, we will therefore only see Danny and Hugo (Etchebest team), César and Matthieu (Viel brigade) and finally Jean and Jacques (from Paul Pairet’s side) trying out exercises based on trompe-l’oeil. Next week will see the six other candidates compete!
18:32 – Who are the two solitary candidates at the start of the season?
16 candidates started the 2023 season of Top Chef. Four of them were sent to the last chance test and, of these, two were eliminated. The two remaining candidates – Albane and Gaston – were not selected from the jury brigades. They are therefore solitary candidates at present. Their objective is therefore to join one of the three brigades by replacing one of the future eliminated candidates. This is a position that could not be more stressful for Gaston and Albane who will therefore have to redouble their efforts to integrate a team led by one of the chief jurors of Top Chef.
18:01 – Which candidates in which brigade this season?
It is a great standard of Top Chef, the jurors form their brigade at the start of the season and will aim to lead their candidates as far as possible by giving them the best advice to avoid their elimination. The distribution in the three brigades took place from episode 1. Here is their composition.
- Etchebest Brigade: Carla, Danny, Hugo, Sarika
- Brigade Viel: Jérémie, Matthieu, César, Alexandre
- Pairet Brigade: Victor, Jean, Jacques, Leo
17:30 – Who was eliminated last week?
The Top Chef 2023 competition started last week on M6. The 16 candidates were thus divided into three brigades and two of them were eliminated from the first episode. They are Miguel and Bérangère. However, and this is a novelty this season, neither of them has left the adventure for the moment since they are now entering a parallel competition led by Hélène Darroze who will create her own secret brigade throughout of the show from the contestants eliminated from the main competition. The shot will therefore take place for both of them this evening in the second part of the evening on M6.

Since the creation of Top Chef, the show’s jury has evolved from season to season, with some chefs leaving the show to be replaced by new names from the French culinary scene. In 2023, the jurors of the previous season are back. Philippe Etchebest, Hélène Darroze, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel return. Note, however, that Hélène Darroze will have a very special role. There is no red brigade this year, but a secret parallel contest that will save a candidate for the quarter-finals.
Louise Bourrat is the latest winner of Top Chef. Hélène Darroze’s candidate faced Arnaud Delvenne in the final of season 16 on M6 on June 15, 2022. She won the hearts of the jury and Red Cross volunteers with 56.19% of the vote against the Belgian competitor who won 43.81% of the vote. Thanks to her victory, Louise from Top Chef won a check for 56,190 euros, which she intended to invest in her establishment. Indeed, the 26-year-old candidate at the time of her participation is the chef of her own restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal.
