After their involvement in the MCU, in which they directed, for example, Avengers 3: Infinity War and Avengers 4: Endgame, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are in touch with one new potential action highlight back at Amazon. After the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, they are involved as producers on the upcoming series Citadel.

Game of Thrones star Richard Madden and Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas play the main roles in the agent thriller, with which Amazon is probably hoping for a new James Bond and Jack Ryan replacement. Now a first trailer has appeared.

Touted as revolutionary action, Amazon’s Citadel blew the budget

The series is about the eponymous spy agency, the destroyed by a powerful syndicate became. This wiped the memories of elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). Together, despite their difficult conditions, they must prevent the powerful syndicate’s plan.

The Russos spoke at a digital press conference, which was also attended by Moviepilot editor-in-chief Lisa Ludwig the captivating concept the Amazon series. Joe Russo said not exactly modestly:

What’s exciting is the scope of the action sequences. You’ve never seen anything like it. […] It points to where storytelling can go.

The size of the budget is said to have escalated at Citadel. The Hollywood Reporter reported in 2022 that the Amazon series was canceled due to expensive reshoots and behind-the-scenes creative changes cost over $200 million should have. This makes the action production one of the most expensive series of all time.

The first two episodes of Citadel will be released on April 28, 2023 released on Amazon Prime. The rest of the six episodes will then be released weekly on Fridays.
