More and more regions under security restrictions in Burkina Faso. A curfew has just been introduced in several regions of the country plagued by attacks by armed terrorist groups. The entire northern region, as well as the provinces of Bam and Sanmatenga are affected by this measure. Vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, bicycles and people are prohibited from driving between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Five days ago, at least twelve civilians were killed by armed men in an attack on the village of Aorèma about ten kilometers from Ouahigouya in the North region according to several local sources. The assailants opened fire on a group of young people sitting in a small informal restaurant, according to witnesses.
Since then, the governor of the region has instituted a curfew in this area. A measure that prohibits any movement of people or vehicles from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until March 31. A secure source assures that “ anti-jihadist operations are underway in the region, and bombings of terrorist bases are planned “.
But the North is not the only region affected by such security measures. Several other provinces plagued by attacks by armed groups, including Bam and Sanmatenga, in the center-north region, are also now under curfew. Referring to security reasons, Adama Jean Yves Béré, the high commissioner of the province of Bam recommends to the populations ” to avoid any non-essential travel” during the times and dates of the curfew “. He warned: checks will be carried out by the defense and security forces and offenders will suffer “ all the rigor of the law “.
