They are two of Sweden’s greatest skiing heroes in history.
And there is such tremendous respect between each other.
– Thomas Wassberg is a great person, says Per Elofsson in an interview with Sportbibeln.
Two skiing kings from two different generations of Swedish cross-country skiing. Per Elofsson broke through as a major talent at the end of the 90s and would then go on to write Swedish sports history at the beginning of the new millennium.

It was an impressive three WC golds, a WC silver, a WC bronze and an Olympic bronze for the Umeå son who also won the overall World Cup twice during his successful career. Elofsson took inspiration from the great skiing heroes Gunde Swan and Thomas Wassberg who dominated cross-country skiing during his upbringing.

Wassberg is one of Swedish skiing’s absolute best with an incredible four Olympic golds, three WC golds, three WC silvers and one WC bronze during his career. And it is clear that Elofsson has great respect for the old Olympic hero and really likes him as a person.
– Thomas Wassberg is a great person. He is cosy, homely and very genuine. He is very kind. Then it’s clear, everyone knows what Wassberg is like. He can be a bit selfish at times, but always with good intentions, says Per Elofsson in an interview with Sportbibeln.

Elofsson won
The two skiing icons also had to duel each other when they settled in the very first season of the TV hit “Champion of the Champions”. Wassberg and Elofsson also met face to face in the mythical night duel and there the younger emerged victorious from the classic night drama.

Per Elofsson then went on to win the Master of Masters that year. He now tells us that it was fun to make the SVT program together with Wassberg, the recordings took place in Andalusia, Spain.
– It was very nice, we had a lot of fun down there. It was the first year of the Master of Masters and I actually won that year, in the final with Malin Moström and Erica Johansson, says Elofsson in the interview.
