The first works have begun on the border fence between Finland and Russia.
It is to protect Finland against migrant flows that Russia might conceivably send across the border, but also against deserting Russian soldiers who want to escape the war in Ukraine entering the country illegally.
It will be 30 miles long and cover roughly a fifth of Finland’s 130-mile-long border with Russia. Cost: equivalent to SEK 4.2 billion.
