Bornholm is Denmark’s easternmost point. Therefore, the Home Guard there has always had an eye on Russia and after the invasion of Ukraine, the task has grown. This weekend, the Bornholm Home Guard is practicing for a Russian invasion.
For 48 hours, the Bornholm volunteer soldiers will practice defending the Danish island, reports DR.
The exercise marks a shift for Bornholm’s home guard, says chief Ulrik Skytte. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the data has grown beyond monitoring vital infrastructure.
– We see a threat picture where Russia is much more aggressive. We must be able to fight, we must be able to ambush, attack objects such as drones.
Swedish Home Guard soldiers also participate in the exercise. With a possible Swedish entry into NATO, the Bornholm Home Guard expects increased cooperation in the future.
