At least 35 dead from streptococcus
Since December, at least 35 people, including 2 children, have died from an invasive streptococcal infection in Denmark, reports TT and refers to the public health authority Statens Serum Institut.
Invasive infections mean that the streptococcal bacteria have spread and caused worsening conditions, such as sepsis or scarlet fever. Group A strep has increased in several European countries in recent months and in the UK at least 40 children have died after contracting the disease.
Even in Sweden, there have been reports of an unusually high number of cases in children with streptococci in recent months, TT states and refers to Läkartidningen.
– The increase is probably due to the fact that we have increased contacts again and that the immunity in society is worse. This is actually the first winter season in a long time that we have no restrictions, says state epidemiologist Anders Lindblom to Läkartidningen.

Man sentenced for rape of girl
A 37-year-old man in Stockholm is sentenced to four years in prison after he raped a 14-year-old girl on two occasions, the police write in a press release.
The man made contact with the girl via a chat forum in November 2022. That same month, they met in a parking lot, where the man raped the girl. The man also paid the girl after the assault on her.
