Statistics Sweden’s big miss – forced to correct GDP figure

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Statistics Norway (SCB) announces that an error has been made regarding the latest GDP statistics. The previously stated GDP development is increased from previously -0.9 percent to -0.2 percent for the fourth quarter compared to the previous three-month period. According to Jessica Engdahl, head of the section for product accounts at Statistics Sweden, it is a late update of an item relating to foreign trade that is behind the update of the figures. – We judged that the size of the update was so large that it justified a new publication where we include that information, she tells TT. As regards seasonally adjusted values, a change is made from the previous -0.9 percent to -0.5 percent. It does not give a significantly different picture of the economy, but it is a significantly smaller reduction than what we came out with on Tuesday. TT: Is it a big enough change that various forecasts may change? – It is difficult for us to answer, but it was based on such thoughts that we felt it was still justified to publish about, says Jessica Engdahl.
