Franchise: the importance of training before taking the plunge

Franchise the importance of training before taking the plunge

Follow a training course before starting your franchise business? The proposal may seem surprising, since the networks already offer those who join them to give them all the keys to succeed in their new job. However, going through this box is sometimes a necessity. “For hairdressing, optics, insurance brokerage or catering, diplomas or certifications are required”, recalls Laurent Delafontaine, founding partner of the firm Ax Réseaux. In these cases, there is therefore no other choice than to obtain the precious sesame before starting. But for the others ? If there is no obligation, taking the time to learn the fundamentals before diving into the deep end does not necessarily constitute wasted time.

“Expanding your skills in areas such as accounting and management gives you confidence”, underlines Laurent Delafontaine, founding partner of the firm Ax Réseaux.

As proof, the Franchise Academy, which depends on the French Federation of the same name, offers a one-day program to allow future partners to find out more about what awaits them. “The ‘Becoming a franchisee’ training, which takes place face-to-face or remotely, gives the possibility of acquiring the basic elements of understanding in one day, whether in terms of operation or points of vigilance. It also allows participants to make sure that this model is made for them”, explains Boris Flèche, head of this Academy.

Gain in serenity

But beyond a short and ultra-targeted session like this, is it really necessary to acquire other knowledge? “Carrying out a self-diagnosis on the skills already acquired and those that will be useful in your new activity is never useless”, assures Boris Flèche. It is essential in particular to identify its shortcomings in order to fill them and to begin its new career in the best conditions. “The majority of candidates come from the workforce and not all of them are comfortable with all the aspects of running a business. In this case, following a few specific modules can allow you to take your first steps with the as much serenity as possible”, observes Boris Flèche.

“Expanding your skills in areas such as accounting, management or recruitment can allow some to approach the start of their entrepreneurial adventure with more confidence”, adds Laurent Delafontaine. To aim accurately, it is also necessary to take into account the specificities of the sector considered. “A partner who is going to take the helm of a fast food company with a large team will have every interest in deepening his knowledge of management and social law”, gives Boris Flèche as an example. The approach is all the more simple as with the personal training account (CPF), everyone can design their own course. And finance it at least in part.
