After the recent storm of criticism against the police’s own investigation of police chief Mats Löfving, the liberals now want to push the issue in the government to appoint a special supervisory authority.
The Swedish police is one of the few authorities that does not have a special supervisory authority like the School Inspectorate and the Inspectorate for Care and Care, but is therefore something that the party leader and Johan Pehrson and the Liberals want to see changed.
– It is a terrible tragedy what has happened, but it must be remembered that apart from Mats Löfving’s tragic death, police officers are repeatedly injured in Sweden. It is a very exposed job, therefore it is important to have an internally functioning supervision, says Johan Pehrson to TV4 Nyheterna.
– I will have a discussion with my colleagues in the government, if this is something we can raise. For the liberals, this is important, a large authority like the police must be characterized by security, says Johan Pehrson.
