Hospitalizations in Brantford-Brant due to COVID-19 remain low.
The Brant Community Healthcare System on Wednesday reported 13 COVID patients in hospital, with two in critical care. That’s the same number as Tuesday but down from 17 who were receiving care on Monday.
On Wednesday, the Brant County Health Unit reported 24 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. However, numbers are likely underreported because of limited testing.
Since the pandemic began in March of 2020, 8,184 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Brantford-Brant, with 7,982 of those resulting in recovered cases.
There are currently 141 active cases in the community but that number is also likely underreported.
There have been 61 local COVID deaths since the pandemic began.
There have been 317,529 total doses of the vaccine administered at vaccination clinics in Brantford-Brant. That number includes 123,195 first doses, 123,663 second doses, 69,470 third doses and 1,168 fourth doses.
In Brantford-Brant, 83.07 per cent of residents, aged five and older, have received one dose of the vaccine, while 79.06 per cent have received two or more doses.

- Paris Fairgrounds, Wednesday through Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

An outbreak at Brantford General Hospital (Unit B5) from Jan. 14 that involved 11 patients was declared over on Tuesday.
The only ongoing outbreaks are at Community Living Brant (Beaver Crescent), Feb. 7, one resident and two staff members; and Brierwood Gardens Retirement Home, Jan. 28, 22 residents and three staff members.
The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic and Grand Erie district school boards are reporting the percentage of absences for students and staff at each of their schools. Ohsweken Public Health reported 25 active COVID cases on Six Nations of the Grand River as of Tuesday, with 98 people in self-isolation.
There are five people from Six Nations currently hospitalized with the virus.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,492 confirmed COVID cases on Six Nations.
Exact numbers are not available but 55 per cent of the population has received a dose of the vaccination, with 50 per cent competing in their vaccination series.
Since Sept. 1, 743 cases (68.92 per cent) have been in unvaccinated people, 304 (28.2 per cent) have been in vaccinated people and 31 (2.88per cent) have been in people who are partially vaccinated.
There have been 23 deaths related to the virus on Six Nations.
On Wednesday, Public Health Ontario reported 1,403 COVID patients in hospital, down 147 from Tuesday and 494 from last week. Of those in hospital, 364 are in intensive care.
The province reported 47 COVID deaths on Wednesday, There now have been 12,167 deaths since the pandemic began in March of 2020. The latest deaths occurred over the past 24 days.
There were 2,532 confirmed cases in the province on Wednesday, however, that number is likely underreported.
