The former minister Stefan Attefall becomes the new governor of Uppsala.

The now 62-year-old Attefall was the Christian Democratic Minister of Civil Affairs and Housing from 2010 to 2014. He is perhaps best known for the introduction of the right to build smaller houses without a building permit, popularly known as Attefallshus.

Now he instead enters as governor, with seat in Uppsala Castle. His appointment is valid from 20 April up to and including 30 April 2029.

“I am proud and happy about the appointment. Uppsala is an exciting and dynamic region where history, academia and business meet. It is a growth region where the challenge is to build infrastructure and housing for people in a sustainable way. Here, the county administrative board can play an important role together with other actors,” he says, according to a press release from the county administrative board.

Minister of Civil Affairs Erik Slottner, also KD, presented the appointment on Thursday.
