The Walking Dead never resolved the fate of an entire community — and now we know why

The Walking Dead season 11B ended on a big cliffhanger far from Daryl, Maggie and our other main characters. Commonwealth villain Lance Hornsby and his henchmen raided the Autonomous Community of Oceanside.

Now finally we get one subsequent explanation showrunner Angela Kang on why that cliffhanger was never resolved — and what she thinks happened to the characters.

The Walking Dead completely ignores the Oceanside drama in the finale

The Oceanside Community was for five seasons Part of the zombie saga The Walking Dead. However, along with Alexandria, Hilltop, the Kingdom and later the Commonwealth, the fisherwomen’s community has received the least attention.

In the Season 11 episode Acts of God, Lance Hornsby and his troops invade all independent communities, including Hilltop and Alexandria. We see in the final scenes of the episode the Oceanside leader Rachel Ward and her comrades in handcuffs.

This attention was for a community that has recently received little attention in the very last midseason finale an interesting choice. It was all the more disappointing that the fates of Rachel (Avianna Mynhier) and fellow Oceanside face Cyndie (Sydney Park) were never resolved.

In the episode Faith later Aaron, Lydia & Co. stumble upon the in the woods three episodes later Oceansiders Luke and Jules. Luk was originally part of Magna’s group. With otherwise busy schedules, Luk actor Dan Fogler “settled down in Oceanside” and was out of the story for a while.

Luke and Jules are the only Oceansiders whose fate is unraveled. They explain that they were not in the village when it was attacked and were able to escape. Unfortunately, The Walking Dead fails to enlighten us at this point about the rest of Oceanside and no longer mentions the community.

Oceanside’s fate remains in limbo due to “unforeseeable circumstances.”

Oceanside didn’t let go of a curious fan. In the comments of one of her Instagram posts, he asked Angela Kang about it. And she answered him personallyhow the characters are doing:

First she explains why Oceanside was left out:

We originally wrote a scene for Oceanside in the finale, but we had to cancel it due to unforeseeable circumstances. (Unfortunately, this sometimes happens in productions)

Angela Kang also reveals, what they think happened to the characters:

It has not been confirmed that they are dead. (…) Oceanside is a port community and the characters have often been on long fishing and sailing expeditions to explore and hunt. I think that has Cyndie just made during the Commonwealth attack. Rachel led the fight against the attack.

So we can surmise that much of Oceanside survived. Since Angela Kang doesn’t officially declare anyone dead in Oceanside, everyone can make up their own dream ending.

Anyone who needs The Walking Dead supplies can still look forward to the brand new spin-offs The Walking Dead: Dead City with Maggie and Negan in New York this year and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon with Daryl in Paris. There are no concrete start dates yet, but Dead City should come in June.
