The 2022-2023 season is probably a season Southampton just want to finish as soon as possible and then forget about it.
On Wednesday, the next slap in the face came for the “Saints” when they lost at home to Grimsby Town, 16th in League Two (English fourth division), with 1-2.
Gavan Holohan made it 1-0 for visiting Grimsby from the penalty spot in added time in the first half.
Samme Holohan then got another chance from eleven meters five minutes into the second half. Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy certainly went the right way this time, but it was 2-0 Grimsby on the scoreboard.
“Saints” Duje Caleta-Car, who caused the second penalty, got revenge on himself when quarter later he sent in the reduction 1-2 on the volley, perfectly trashed in the penalty area on a corner.
Another 15 minutes later, Theo Walcott thought he had equalized – but the goal was ruled out for offside.
2–1 to Grimsby, then, and the nightmare season continues for Premier League giants Southampton.
