Greta Thunberg is one of the climate activists protesting against a wind farm in Norway, which has been built on land where the Sami have grazed reindeer for hundreds of years. This morning she was taken away by Norwegian police when she occupied the entrance to a ministry in Oslo.
Three years ago, the Supreme Court in Norway ruled that it is the Sami who have the right to the land. But the 150 wind turbines remain.
– The goal of the action is several, but the two main demands are that the wind turbines on Fosen should be demolished and that the land should be given back to the indigenous population. It is imperative that indigenous peoples have a say in matters that affect them. In this case it has been totally ignored, says Greta Thunberg to TV4 Nyheterna.
Climate change a cover
– This is another case of green colonialism, that we use climate change as a cover, says Greta Thunberg.
She believes that a wind farm that restricts Sami rights is not an example of green transition.
– Some say that this is paradoxical because it is wind turbines that the activists are fighting against, but climate change cannot happen at the expense of indigenous people. Then it is not climate justice and it is climate justice we need, says Greta Thunberg.
