The Moscow authorities did not remove the people who came to remember the opposition politician from the Kremlin.

A well-known Russian opposition figure Boris Nemtsov supporters laid flowers at his murder site outside the Kremlin on Monday.

55-year-old Nemtsov was one president Vladimir Putin of the loudest critics.

He was shot on February 27, 2015, when he was returning home from a restaurant dinner with his girlfriend.

– If he [Nemtsov] had been president, all these scary and insane things would not have happened to us, said Elenawho brought flowers to Nemtsov’s murder scene.

In July 2017, a Russian court convicted a total of five Chechen men for Nemtsov’s murder.

Nemtsov’s murderer received a 20-year prison sentence. In addition, the four men who planned Nemtsov’s murder received sentences of 11 to 19 years.

According to critics, the verdicts were staged and the persons responsible for the murder of the opposition politician are still at large.

In 2022, the citizen journalism group Bellingcat, the BBC and the Russian investigative journalism news website The Insider revealed that several agents of the Russian security service FSB had been following Nemtsov before his assassination in 2015.

According to the report of the research team, the same group that followed years later is probably behind Nemtsov’s murder Alexei Navalny before this poisoning in 2020.

Opposition leader Navalny survived the assassination attempt, but was sentenced to years in prison. The Russian opposition considers the verdict political.
